Well, things are really zipping along now. Let’s see, what has been done since my last post?
Deck done and railing up–looks GREAT!
Patio and area in front of garage poured. The next section is leveled and graveled, but our contractor is out of town until Thursday. Who gave him permission to go anywhere???
Still waiting on getting all the kitchen cabinets in. This contractor is as SLOW AS MOLASSES! Nice guy, but he’s a one man band, so everything takes a whole lot longer for him to do.
Granite countertops for kitchen and master bath will be installed tomorrow. I am really excited to see how it looks when it’s in. I was a little hesitant about granite because most of the colors are earth tones, which I am not a big fan of. BUT, most of my upstairs turned out to be earth tones, so the granite we picked should look great. I know it goes great with the stain on the rustic cherry cabinets; really pulls the colors out and makes them pop. It also goes great with the travertine tile in the master bath. For our little bitty vanity top in our guest bath we found a remnant called blue pearl which our contrator assures me will go great with the light blue color of the bathroom. It was amazing how much people wanted for this little countertop, even in formica, the cheap stuff.
The garage door has been installed and I love it. It’s brown-really goes with the house.
The finish carpenters have been working for two weeks on the staining of the door frames and stair rails. Who know it would take so long for this finish work. I think (and hope) they will be putting the wrought iron balasters in this week so we can get a final product.
Except for grouting the tile around the tub, all the tile in the master bath is finished. Everyone who sees it wants to take a shower in our spacious and gorgeous shower. BUT, the plumbing in not in yet, so they will have to wait. Plumbing goes in this week
I have been moving canned goods into my cold storage and have already used alot of the can shelves I have. I didn’t know I had so much food. It is so nice to have so much space to put in out. My last cold storage was so small and cramped and it was sometimes hard to see all that I had. Now everything is out of boxes so I can see it and get at it.
I am taking bids on my pantry organizers. I want a really nice shelving system so I can organize my pantry well. My last pantry was also small and things got lost in the back and on the high shelves alot. I hope the bids come in around $1k and they can do them in two weeks.
Ray told someone last night that he thought we might be able to move in in two weeks. That surprised me. I thought we had at least another 3-4 weeks. But then, when he was typing up the list of all that still needed to be done, he backtracked a little and said maybe it would be 3 weeks. I’ll believe the move-in date when I see it in writing.
Ray just told me that the shower doors are in and they are installing all the door hardware. Yay! I can now lock my doors! Ray has been agitating to move all the boxes that are here in our rental garage over to the house, but I didn’t want to until they could be locked up. Some of the workers have sticky fingers.
We’re hoping for delivery of all the appliances by this weekend. It would be nice to get them installed and ready.
Mirrors for our master bath are proving to be a little problematic. First, they aren’t a standard size and we would like to have them be framed. I can get mirrors cut to the right size that would fit in frames, but the custom frames could get expensive. Something I need to work on.
I will add to this “done” list in future blogs as things get finished. Hopefully I will be writing “Moving Day” in the subject box here in just a couple of weeks. Watch for it!
