Well, the only sure thing about real estate and selling property is that nothing is certain until it’s signed on the dotted line. In my last post I was excited that even tho’ the deal fell through on our home sale, there was an offer on our 5.25 acres that would allow us to continue building our new home. Well, my excitement was premature. That deal also fell apart.
It seems the buyers went to the county to do due diligence on the title and found out the county says that due to a “perk” test in 1997, the water table is too high and there can be no basements and the septic tanks have to be above ground. Now there are 5 other already built existing homes there, a couple of which have basements and none have above ground septic tanks. One neighbor dug down 22 feet, just to see how far down he would have to go to hit water. The county did the test when there was agricultural watering going on constantly in the area, and the ground was totally saturated, hence the high water table designation. The watering has ceased, so the water table is down. We explained that to the RE agent to tell the buyer, but they still ran. I think they just got cold feet, but they had to have some reason, so that’s the one they latched onto.
In the meantime, I’m thinking that as soon as our listing with out agent expires on our house, we will take it off the market until next spring. Oh no, no, no. My dear hubby has decided we are going to keep it on the market for 3 more months. I told him that I was not moving our two boys in the middle of a semester or school year, so what happens if we do get a buyer? He said that we will sell and then lease the house back until spring. That’s all fine and dandy if a prospective buyer agrees, but what if they don’t? Plus, there’s still a chance a buyer could come along anytime and want it now. School starts in 3 weeks down in Spanish Fork and I am NOT starting the boys late. There may be a nasty battle brewing….
So, I am back in 24/7 cleaning mode, which I absolutely detest! Last night the RE agent came over to re-sign us and then mentioned, (or I should say, reminded Ray, since he hadn’t yet told me) that an agent was coming by today with a prospective buyer. The house was none to clean, as I had let it go somewhat while waiting for the deal to go through. I was NOT happy and spent the evening cleaning, fuming and raging at my husband for doing this to me. He is SO going to owe me, BIGTIME!!!
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?
Poor Mommy! This does not sound fun at all! It must be extremely frustrating to be so close to selling and then have it snatched away again. What a bummer! Don’t worry. Whatever is meant to be will be. There is a reason for everything and the Lord is at the helm. I have faith that everything will work out.
Until then Daddy should let you hire a cleaning service to come in once a week! If he’s the one that wants to keep it on the market, then he shouldn’t expect you to have to keep the house in a constant state of cleanliness.
