I have liked Meghan’s pregnancy blog so much, that I decided I should have one too, this one to tell everyone all about our new construction project building our new house. For those who have never built a home, it might be a source of information. For those who have, you may enjoy commiserating with me on the ups and downs, ins and outs, and all the “fun” stuff that can happen when undertaking such a large, personal, shared project.
As for us, this is our third round of building our own home. Hopefully it will be our last, and as such will be everything we have always wanted in our home. We get closer and better with each try.
At the same time as the building project starts, we are also trying to sell our current home and also a lot we have owned for 4 years. We thought we had the lot sold this week, but the buyer backed out (something about losing his job). That will probably be easier to sell, as it is 5.25 acres of flat, unimproved land, except for the well we dug and the irrigation pipe we installed.
The house, however, is another story. It is a large, beautiful home -2 stories with fully finished basement, 7 bedrooms, 2 family rooms, master bedroom on the main floor, 3 1/2 bathrooms and a sewing/craft room on a .40 acre lot. I think it would make a great family home. (to view this home go to:

So what’s the problem? If you have been reading the news apparently exsisting home sales are falling and there is a glut on the market. Last night we did some research and found that there are almost 900 homes for sale in South Jordan alone. South Jordan is not that big, but there has been a lot of home building in the area in the last few years and I can only conclude that all those new homes are still on the market plus all the homes that are currently occupied that are also on the market. Lovely for us, huh? We have not had all that much traffic from house hunters and both our open houses have been bombs. We could lower the price, but I don’t think that would do much good. All it takes is just the right person walking through to fall in love with it, but NOBODY is walking through. Sigh***
On the home building front, the foundation has been dug and the footings will be poured this week. We hope to be able to build the house up to the shell stage, and then let it sit until this house sells.
The new house is in Woodland Hills on the bench above Salem, Utah. We were lucky to find a large lot for a reasonable price just two streets above (literally) my parents. It is heavily wooded with maples and scrub oak. It is mostly level and will be a really fun place for our grandkids to play in.
Hope I haven’t bored you much with this new blog. Please tune in again to see how it’s progressing. Pictures will be uploaded when appropriate and when I have figured out how.
Sigh. This sounds all to familiar. Wait! Maybe it’s because we went through the whole pack up and move to another house thing how many times? I’m just glad that this time I’m not packing up and moving with you:)
In all seriousness, I’m so glad that you are finally going to get the house of your dreams. After building so many houses and then just re-selling them, it’s about time you got a house that has everything you want. I hope it’s everything you wished for. And I hope you finally stay put for a really, REALLY long time:)
